Mass violence most often includes the commission of international crimes. In the past two decades there have been more and more prosecutions for those perpetrating these crimes as well as their superiors. Besides cases with huge public attention such as Milosevic or Pinochet, the structure and policies within States, the UN and other international institutions changed with regard to accountability issues. Moreover, victims themselves got empowered and gaining more influence to bring "their" perpetrators to justice. Andreas Schüller will talk about how Sri Lanka is placed in this context today.
